After seeing the devastation caused by such storms as Sandy and others throughout the US, our local power company, Rocky Mountain Power, sent a great email reminding us about how big
storms can knock out power and what we can do to be prepared.
I wanted to share part of this information with you.

Things you can do to prepare
- Assemble an outage kit with items that will also be useful in other emergency situations.
- Review what to do if the power goes out in your home.
- Cordless phones require electricity, so make sure you have another working phone if the power goes out. Click here for tips to preserve your cell phone’s battery.
- Put together a communication plan with your family, loved ones and other important contacts.
- Know how to override your electric garage door opener.
- If you own a portable generator, review how to operate it safely.
